Whether you’re a student going to multiple interviews or a hardcore defense lawyer going about the daily grind, it’s important to be prepared for anything to happen during the day. Besides the obvious (keys, ID and cell phone), I have found that there are a few things in my bag that I just couldn’t live without.

First, a water bottle. Now this may seem a little bit bulky to carry around all day, but trust me, it’s worth it. Also, it is easy to find a small water bottle that fits perfectly in your bag. Staying hydrated not only helps you feel good, it also helps you stay more alert during meetings. If your body doesn’t have enough water in it, you just can’t concentrate as well.

My next important thing to have is meal bar or other nonperishable snack. You never know when you are going to get hungry or need an energy pick me up. Also, there are sometimes those days that you just don’t have time to stop for lunch. This way you can keep your blood sugar up and keep doing what you need to do.

Also, though this is not as much of a necessity as the others, I always try to have some interestingly colored pens with me during a long day of meetings or classes. Taking notes in color makes it just a little more fun and keeps you that much more engaged.

After a long morning, I have found that oil absorbing sheets are a lifesaver. When you want to freshen up at lunchtime rather than layering on the powder, dab your face with one of these little sheets and voila! You look fresh and new. You can find this product at Target or Wal-Mart, as well as many other major retail stores.

Don’t forget to pack your favorite few makeup essentials – your lipstick, foundations, eyeliner and mascara for beautiful eyelashes.  You never know when you will need a touch up.

Finally, you’ve got to have your nail kit. This may consist of just a nail clipper with an attached file, or it could be a full on kit complete with orange sticks and nail polish. Either way, you want to be ready for that annoying broken nail that is bound to pop up eventually. Not only does this prevent snags in your clothing, it also helps fix the problem right away before it gets worse or painful.

So try putting these few extra things in your bag and see what a help they are for your busy everyday life.
